We lost a VT friend and legend this past week. His name was Gordon Stone and many of you know him through his PHISH playing or through his own music with Gordon Stone Band. He was part of so many VT bands throughout the years and always added his own flavor and signature sound whether on bango or pedal steel guitar. Gordon was a gentle soul with a magical smile and calming laugh. He joined us for a handful of shows and always made us sound better! A few memories are :
Squiddies at Jay Peak Hotel-we played New Years Eve many years ago and Gordon rocked with us and we had a magical NYE in the North!
Montpelier wedding: Gordon was on this wedding gig for a couple out of Montpelier, VT and they had requested "Friends In Low Places" by Garth Brooks. Most of you who know us know that we don't really do cover songs except the occasional few here and there. This one was so much fun w/ Gordon on the pedal steel that we kept repeating that damn chorus and I truly felt like I was Garth Brooks!!
Blue Spruce Inn-very, very small motel owned years ago by good friend Rod Farrell in Mt Holly, VT. Gordon played steel and banjo with us and it sounded so damn good!! still remember that eve and playing "Keep ON" where I truly felt like Bela Fleck was channeling Gordon. Maybe it was the other way around.
Wherever Gordon played, he created magic. Thanks for the music god friend and have some fun until I see you......
